March Madness

By Dawn Simmons - Downtown-West Atlanta Macaroni Kid Publisher/Editor March 30, 2017

Of course being the sports mom that I am, I have been living in March Madness as college hoops culminates to the Final Four and finally the Championship Game.  Well here we are!!! At the final four in both Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Here is the round-up….

Ladies First….

No.1 South Carolina Lady Gamecocks vs No. 2 Stanford

The South Carolina Gamecocks are in the Final Four for the second time in their program history with the coaching of Dawn Staley leading the way.  This marks a return trip to the event after appearing in the 2015 version. Two-time SEC Player of the Year A’ja Wilson will lead the Gamecocks’ offensive effort. Stanford advanced after down to the wire win against Notre Dame. Stanford have been to this stage before, so this should be a competitive showdown between two of the best programs in women’s college basketball.

No. 1 UConn vs. No. 2 Mississippi State

No surprise here…. It has been 7 years since UConn has not made it to the Final Four. The Huskies are simply incredible, and they’ll enter the 2017 Women’s Final Four as the favorite to claim another national title. They have won 111 consecutive games, and they have not missed a Final Four since 2007. Mississippi State will need a strong effort to have a chance against the Huskies, but the Bulldogs were impressive in knocking off Baylor to reach this point. This should be an intriguing matchup.
