Sketchworks Comedy Kids Camp is a HIT!!!!

By Dawn Simmons - Downtown-West Atlanta Macaroni Kid Publisher/Editor June 28, 2017

I had the pleasure of watching these young actors learn Sketch Writing, Improvisation, Voice, Movement, Character Creation and a host of theater terms that will blow your mind…. And they did it all in TWO weeks.

Learning the main project “Nightmare on Decatur Street” and then actually filming it was an Awesome experience campers.  They learned a new script each day and gave us a performance to remember on Saturday, June 24.

The focus of the camp is to work and support each other as a group as they grow in their theatre knowledge, character development and comedic timing! On the last Friday of camp, they had a pizza party for lunch to celebrate their experiences from the camp while also gave out individual awards and signed posters.

The end result of the kids’ hard work was a Sketch Showcase. The kids helped come up with a show title/theme and then created special artwork to help promote the show.  The entire live performance was  filmed and edited to create a DVD!

Sketch Kids Summer Camp at the Village Theatre had  Maria Liatis guiding the campers all the way and a GREAT teacher she was!!  Assisting her was John and Dave who wrote the skits the campers performed and at the last minute John performed with the campers and he was Awesome.

If you have a child that has gravitated to the “Arts” and interested in acting you need to be on the lookout for the next camp!
