Classes Have Begun…

Well it is August 7th and we are finally Back in School…. Home school that is!!

We received our school packages and it was like Christmas in July.  New books, Science Kits, Art Kits and even a PE Kit and we decided to go ahead and decide where we were going to work and set up our classroom.

Initially, we were all going to work together in one room…. (Stay tuned to see how that turned out.)  We set up all the books and laptops and pencils and pens and erasers….. We were ready.   A few emails from counselors and principals start to arrive with Welcome Messages and Attachments for us to peruse to help us get ready for the upcoming start date.

More emails start to come and now it’s time for Orientations.

August 7th…….Class is in session.

Day 1 --- 8:30   Breakfast

        9:00      Class begins

We all sit down in our classroom and start lessons.  Well as it turns out my 8th grader is totally independent and starts navigating through his planner and starts working on his lessons.  As he completes each lesson I get an entry on my “to do” that says I need to approve his lessons.  So far everything is going well.

My 3rd grader…. Now that’s a different story.  She needs to read aloud to complete her lessons and get the full understanding.  She is navigating well and is surprisingly independent, but I notice the reading aloud is a little distracting to my son (8th grader).   Quick navigating skills by the Learning Coach (me)  my daughter and I moved into another area and set up shop.  Problem solved.

Our day ended around 1:30 and ALL WAS WELL.

I have to say it was a little more work than I had planned BUT I must say that I think it will pass.  My biggest thing is getting “her” used to the idea that it is REAL SCHOOL even though we are home.

Day 2---8:30   Breakfast

      9:50   Dentist Appt.

      11:45 Lunch at home

      12:15 Class Begins…..

My son (8th grade) navigates perfectly and completes all the day’s lessons and even completed 2 lessons for Wednesday.

My daughter (3rd grade) navigates well and reads through all her lessons and decides to do 2 lessons for the next day.

We are looking forward to Day 3!!!!!
